Representing a Perfect Society in Early-1960s North Vietnam

Having posted some pictures from the South Vietnamese magazine, Vietnam Fights and Builds, from the 1960s, here are some images from a similar magazine from the same time period from North Vietnam called Viet-Nam.

I doubt that life was as perfect as it seems to be depicted in these images, but once again, such images are interesting in the ways that they point to the kind of society that certain people wanted to see emerge.

These are amazing photos. So very interesting. I have traveled throughout Vietnam since 2005, working on my photography book, http://www.Vietnam40YearsLater.com. These photos may represent the goals of the North Vietnamese but the reality was quite different with deep poverty and starving people. I remember one man in his 60s telling me that he joined the army so he could eat and take the burden off his parents.
